Barely a month ago, it seemed as though the entire political establishment was united behind the idea that Americans should never again leave their house for any reason, or the blood of innocents would be on their hands forever.
Then, in response to the wave of protests and subsequent riots that swept the nation in response to the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was oddly quiet. Protesters gathered by the thousands to stage demonstrations that often turned violent — not exactly how we were told to practice social distancing.
Earlier this week, the CDC finally got around to voicing concerns that the massive gatherings could result in a spike in coronavirus cases. But the fact that it took them this long to say it makes something uncomfortably clear: someone has been lying about something.
If the Wuhan virus was truly as lethal as pundits in the media and the public health “experts” say it is, their reaction to the protests would have been immediate. Remember: people have not been allowed to go to church, visit their families, open their businesses, or take their children to the park. Suddenly, when a politically charged protest movement invades the media space, all of this logic simply vanished.
So, what’s really going on here?
According to former Congressman Ron Paul, the entire conversation has been uprooted by political actors. In his latest weekly update on the state of the virus, he makes the case for how draconian government policies have exacerbated the crisis — both from a public health and civil liberties perspective.
Obviously, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. States are still in the process of opening their economies, even as some of our nation’s largest cities have to immediately close everything down again — this time over fears of destructive riots.
But one thing is clear to Ron Paul and scores of other Americans — we can never allow the government to exercise this much power ever again.
